Velvet Fabric Production
Velvet fabric production is a complex and meticulous textile process that creates a pile (fuzzy) surface using special weaving techniques. The main steps include:
- 1. Raw Material Selection: Velvet can be made from cotton, silk, polyester, or viscose. Today, a polyester-cotton blend is commonly preferred for increased durability.
- 2. Yarn Preparation: Two types of yarn are prepared: ground yarn and pile yarn. Ground yarn: Forms the base structure of the fabric. Pile yarn: Consists of short threads standing upright on the surface (creating velvet's signature fuzzy look).
- 3. Weaving or Knitting: The fabric is produced on weaving or knitting machines depending on the demand.
- 4. Weaving: Double Cloth Weaving: Velvet is typically woven on special looms where the pile yarns are placed between two layers of fabric. During weaving, the pile yarns are integrated in U or V shapes into the structure.
- 5. Finishing Processes: Brushing and shearing: Done to achieve a smooth and uniform pile. Dyeing and finishing: Gives velvet its final color and softness. Polishing or embossing: Hot press techniques may be used to add decorative patterns.
